Understand and interpret the result in clinical studies

About the Course
Do you want to learn how to quickly understand and more accurately analyze clinical studies?
In this course, you will get an introduction to how a study is designed (and why), and what the presented results actually mean.
Without complicated mathematics or calculations, we will go through different study designs and explain key statistical concepts such as p-values, confidence intervals, superiority, and non-inferiority – along with many others – and how they should be interpreted in practice.
The course is aimed at those who want to feel more confident in understanding and interpreting results from clinical studies. And perhaps most importantly: to show how interesting and useful statistics can actually be, even for non-statisticians.
The course is given in Swedish.
Target Group
This course is aimed at non-statisticians working in roles related to clinical studies. You may work with clinical trials, as a medical manager, in regulatory affairs, or in the marketing and sales of pharmaceuticals.
In short, the course is aimed at professionals with a basic understanding of clinical research who want to sharpen their skills in understanding and interpreting results and statistics.
The same principles also apply to studies within the medical device field, making the course relevant for those working in this area as well. However, the examples and exercises in the course are drawn from the pharmaceutical field.
Learning
After completing the course, you will have gained a solid understanding of how to quickly and accurately analyze and interpret results from clinical studies.
The course focuses on fundamental concepts such as p-values, confidence intervals, and statistical tests, as well as more advanced analytical methods such as non-inferiority studies, Kaplan-Meier curves, and Cox regression. The material is presented without mathematical calculations, with a focus on making the concepts easy to understand and apply in practice.

Kursinnehåll
The course is built around lectures and shorter practical exercises, none of which require a computer or calculator.
-
Design of clinical studies – the thinking behind.
-
Different effect measures and what they mean/how they are interpreted
-
Absolute and relative risks, and Number Needed to Treat (NNT)
-
P-values, subgroup analyses, and confidence intervals
-
Non-inferiority studies – why, how, and what do the results mean?
-
Interpretation of studies measuring time to an event, such as myocardial infarction or death in cancer. How do you understand Kaplan–Meier curves and interpret the results of a Cox regression?
All participants recieve their own copy of the book “Statistik är den coola vetenskapen som omvandlar data till kunskap”, text Anna Törner, illustration Anders Gunér.
